Focus areas
Michaela advises German and international clients on business & human rights, sustainability compliance and regulatory due diligence obligations. Her work focuses on responsible purchasing and procurement practices, contract design and integrated approaches to meeting different regulatory requirements. She is a European legal advisor to the Responsible Contracting Project and a member of the European Working Group on the Model Contract Clauses for Responsible and Sustainable Supply Chains (EMC). Michaela also lectures on business & human rights at the University of Münster.
Background
From 2020, Michaela was a legal expert at the German federal government’s Helpdesk on Business & Human Rights. In this role, she advised companies, business associations, the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) as well as German federal ministries. She also co-developed the joint BAFA/Helpdesk guidance “Cooperation in the supply chain” and the practical guide “Supporting due diligence processes with IT tools and software solutions.”

Previously, she worked as a lawyer with Luther, Dombert and at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR). Michaela was admitted to the bar in 2017.
Michaela studied law at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.
